We were up early and lugged our suitcases down to the exit. No one was there. Interesting. A few minutes passed and one of the ship’s crew passed us and started laughing. He couldn’t figure out how to tell us in English but finally pointed to a sign. Yeah, there was a time change and we were an hour early. Darn! That was another hour I could have slept!
We returned an hour later and were back in Stockholm. We ended up booking the same hotel and after dropping off our suitcases, we headed back towards Gamla Stan, taking a slightly different route.
After breakfast we decided to head towards Sodermalm (from The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo – which I’ve never read/seen). The first stop was an elevator to get a view of Gamla Stan. Sadly, the elevator is closed for repairs and we were not able to get the full view.
My favorite part of exploring Sodermalm was receiving a free sample of chocolate milk. Day made!
From there we took a boat cruise around Stockholm.
The day I had been waiting for ALL trip!! Way back in the beginning stages of this trip, I found out about the Nike Women’s race series. Originally we were planning to leave today however, I knew I wanted to do this race so we rearranged our travel plans. Because this was a night race, we knew we wanted to take it easy (as much as possible).
We started off with one of the open top, hop-on, hop-off bus tours (to hopefully limit walking around). We stopped off at a farmers market before heading over to packet pick-up (exploring a few subway stops along the way).
We finished up the day by finally eating Swedish meatballs! Then it was back to the hotel for a nap prior to the race.
Next up – the race! It deserves a post of its own.
